OUR - HOMEPAGE -- UPDATES

Paul Rabil - Crabs U19 Allstar - Vail ShootoutThe Baltimore Lacrosse Club, Inc is a 501-C-3 state registered non profit. It is our goal to provide an exceptional lacrosse experience. We will field one team per age group and provide top notch coaching for that team. Our mission is simple: to provide our players with the opportunity to compete in lacrosse tournaments held throughout the country during the summer and fall. Many of these tournaments exist to showcase our players to college coaches. These tournaments also have divisions for younger high school and middle school teams. Experienced and proven coaching is the cornerstone of the BLC.  Lifelong friendships between players and parents from the many different schools and communities from which our teams are comprised is an added benefit of the club experience!

Inside Lacrosse write ups -CRABS 2011's
by STAFF posted 01/28/2010

Time was, the big recruiting rising junior verbal commit news would start to break roughly after Sept. 1, after official recruiting material could be sent via email or snail mail. Usually we can break this as “Inside Lacrosse’ No. So-and-So recruit commits…” Not anymore. Already, a handful of reports have started to trickle in. As such, Inside Lacrosse has learned that midfielder Ryan Tucker (Gilman, Md.) has verbally committed to Virginia. Here’s a brief look at Tucker:

Name: Ryan Tucker    files.LeagueAthletics.com/Images/Club/2762/tuck1.jpg
Commitment: University of Virginia
Position: Midfield
High School: Gilman
Class: 2011
Summer ’10: Under Armour Underclassman Team Baltimore, Nike Blue Chip Rising Junior Camp
Height/Weight: 6-1/185 lbs.
Stats/Honors: 10G/8A - MIAA Champions 2009
Other Schools Considered: Duke, UNC, Maryland, Harvard, Ohio State

How did the commitment process go for you?
“It went very well. All of the coaches were fantastic and I had the opportunity to unofficially visit all of the schools. Virginia has everything I am looking for in a college experience. We visited UVA in February and then again in July. I had been there a few times before with my mom and dad and with my Crabs Club team.”

What were the reasons behind making your verbal commitment?
“I have been thinking about it for a long time and wanted to make my mind up early in the process. What’s the reason for waiting if you have a chance to go to the school of your dreams? Virginia has a great academic reputation, big-time athletics, awesome lacrosse, and warm weather. Coach Starsia is great and I feel very comfortable with the players. Everyone made me feel like I was part of a family.”

How did your university visit go?
“Great! Charlottesville is an easy place to enjoy.”

What are you best lacrosse attributes?
“I guess my size and speed but I still have a lot to learn.”

What would you like to work on over the next two seasons?
“Being a good leader for Coach Matthews at Gilman, my opposite hand, shooting and playing without the ball.”

Here’s one that we had on the board, but we can now confirm. St. Paul’s rising junior Taylor Michel (A/St. Paul’s, Md.), has verbally committed to Virginia in June.

A varsity attackman/middie for St. Paul’s since a freshman Michel scored 25 goals and 37 assists, and was second on the team in points, goals and assists. He was also the starting running back on the football team, rushed for over 1200 yards last fall leading the team to the championship game. This summer he played at Nike Blue Chip Camp and was a member of the Baltimore Lacrosse Clubs Crabs rising junior team.

Name: Taylor Michel  files.LeagueAthletics.com/Images/Club/2762/tmichel.jpg
Commitment: University of Virginia
Position: Attack
High School: St. Paul’s
Class: 2011
Summer ’09 (club teams, all-star camps): Crabs 2011 team, Nike Blue Chip Rising Junior Camp
Height/Weight: 5-11/175 lbs.
Stats/Honors: 25G/37A
Other Schools Considered: UNC, Hopkins

How did the commitment process go for you?
The process went well. I started making unofficial visits to schools in February. The coaching staff at UVA is incredible and really took the time to show me the facilities and campus in detail.

What were the reasons behind making your verbal commitment?
I wasn’t planning on making a decision so early. I originally had a much longer list of schools I wanted to look at, but after seeing the campus at Virginia and meeting the coaches I knew it was the place for me.

How did your university visits go?
They went really well. I’ve had a great time in Charlottesville so far.

What are you best lacrosse attributes?
I like to think I have good vision and I can see the field very well. I’ve also got a pretty good shot.

What would you like to work on over the next two seasons?
I’d like to take on more of a leadership role. I also need to work on my left hand shot.

ANNUAL LETTER
by posted 01/22/2010

Dear Players and Parents,

I hope this letter finds everyone in good spirits and enjoying the start of a new year!

Before we look forward to the 2010 club season, I would like to share with everyone

a little about our programs tremendous success during 2009.

·        The Under 19 All Stars coached by Duncan Booth and Kim Strutt won the prestigious Vail Shootout in Colorado for the 4th year in a row. The CRABS are the first team in the history of the event to achieve that feat!

·        The 2010 grads also coached by Booth and Strutt finished the summer unbeaten winning both the MVP and Crab City Challenge tournaments. Their tremendous 3 year run together helped our club finish the summer ranked the # 2 summer lacrosse club in the country by Inside Lacrosse magazine! All 24 young men will be playing in college next year. With over 60 wins and only 1 loss the last 3 years this has been a truly special group of young men and we will miss them as they move into the college ranks!

·        The 2011 squad coached by Brandon Mollett and Brian and Brendan Kelly went 5-1 in a rain shortened MVP tournament, had an incredible run beating many older squads at the famous Brine Shootout before falling in the semi finals to a senior laden CNY Road Hawks team and wrapped up the summer at UVA going unbeaten. They continued this run into the fall at UPLAX running the table against the competition! Many of the players have since verbally committed to the school of their choice! Schools like UVA, JHU, Notre Dame, Harvard, Navy, Penn State and Georgetown have snapped up our players!!! Way to go guys!

·        The 2012 squad coached by Nathaniel Badder only got 1 game in at a rain shortened Upper Atlantic event. Stumbled in the semi finals at the Crabfeast to a talented Madlax squad and made it to the semi finals of the Tri State National tournament. The guys played hard all summer and definitely got better! We look forward to even better outings in 2010!

·        The Under 15 group coached by Ryan McClernan, Andy Shilling and Tom Alderman was on fire in 2009. They won the National Premier Youth Lacrosse League during the spring! During the summer they got rained out at Upper Atlantic, won the Greene Turtle Invitational and traveled to Tri State were they lost in the semi finals. The U15 squad finished the summer by winning a very competitive Patriot Games tournament!

·        The Under 13 group coached by Tom Alderman and Brad Rodier also won the NPYLL during the spring! Going into the summer the squad stubbed their toes in the Greene Turtle Invitational and the Tri State Nationals losing in the semi finals of both before putting it all back together to win the Patriot Games!

Our players represented themselves well on and off the field at all the events we attended. The coaches consistently heard good things from event organizers and college coaches about our teams all summer. I know we all made new friends and learned more about the game we love so much. I was impressed with how hard we played for each other and shared the spotlight. Congratulations!

Many of your Crabs coaches have great relationships with college coaches across the country. We have fielded many calls and emails about you/your sons over the last few months. Please don’t hesitate to use our names and emails on contact sheets. If you have specific questions please email your coach or me directly and we will respond to you as soon as possible.

And last but not least thank you for choosing to be a part of our club! Please take it seriously. Remember it is ok to say no. Many other coaches and programs are continuously trying to get our players to play with them when we do not have events. While this may seem attractive it has the potential to hurt you and our teams. We have you in the best events this summer and we leave you time to rest and relax and also honor any commitment to play for your school. We expect you rested and ready to play in our events so that you represent yourself and our club in the best possible light to any scouts in attendance. It is ok to put the stick down and go swimming for the weekend or out on some dates! We want you hungry to perform in our uniform - NOT burnt out!

I wish you all the very best in the classroom and on the field this spring!

Best Regards,

Ryan McClernan

INSIDE LACROSSE FINAL SUMMER RANKING!!!!!
by ryan mcclernan posted 08/04/2009

In our inaugural effort to shake up the summer club scene by ranking, reporting and following the summer recruiting teams intently, we discovered that creating said rankings is the literal equivalent of ranking apples and oranges.

That’s because the variations between the programs tend to outweigh the similarities. Some teams play the competitive tourney style circuits. Other attend the lacrosse showcase events. There are programs who practice consistently, and some who just show up and let it rip. Some programs split teams strictly by recruiting age groups, some pull together the best of the best regardless of age. Many organizations want to actually win the summer club title, others are content to showcase their kids with the thought of winning coming secondary.

So, this is our attempt to gauge apples, orange, peaches, pears, kumquats and quinces. We looked at summer title records, final finishes, tournament competition and overall competitiveness. We took a stab at the summer scene, if you will, in these, our End of Summer rankings..

1. Long Island Express Central Team
Major Titles
Champs - Tri-State National Tournament, Shootout by Brine Session II, Finalist - King of the Hill Session II

Players to Watch Will Mazzone, A, Ward Melville, N.Y.; Ryan DeSimone, A, Smithtown East, N.Y.; Greg Danseglio, D, St. Anthony’s, N.Y.; Mike Pellegino, D, Connetquot, N.Y.

Final Take The Long Island Express Central team, comprised of all rising juniors (and one rising sophomore), rolled through the summer with a 38-2 record. Though an All-Star team, they played incredible team ball, beating physical opponents like Boys’ Latin (Md.) and Tri-State Black for top title victories. Also took home some early summer trophies at the Tri-State Peddie and Juvenile Diabetes tourneys. Best group lacrosse skills in the summer circuit, with knowledgeable scorers across the board.

2. CRABS 2011s (BLC)
Major Titles
Virginia Team Camp (5-1)

Players to Watch Logan Connelly, A, St. Mary’s Annapolis, Md.; Wells Stanwick, A, Boys’ Latin, Md.; Ryan Tucker, M, Gilman, Md.; Tyler German, M, Queen Anne’s, Md.

Final Take Another team made exclusively of juniors, Crabs 2011s (rising junior) team finished the summer with just three losses, did well in their home tournament and was the top team at the Virginia Team Camp. Had a few “out of the car” losses in various tournaments, but played strong after initial adversity. Again, a rising junior group that gets points for doing exceptional against teams with mostly rising seniors (though the 2010s won their own tournament, the Crab City Challenge, earlier this summer.)

3. Duke’s LC
Major Titles
Champ Camp 2009

Players to Watch Seniors- Jordan Wolf, A, Lower Merion, Pa.; Andrew O’Connell, G, Malvern Prep, Pa.; Stephen O’Hara, D, St. Joe’s Prep; Juniors - Kevin Forster, A, La Salle, Pa.; Joe Sankey, A, Penn Charter, Pa.

Final Take Swept through Champ Camp with their mixed rising junior/rising senior Duke’s I team, beating a tough BELAX program 6-5 in the championship final. Also performed solid at the Tri-State event going 5-0 in pool play. Dukes II, a team comprised mostly of rising juniors and sophomores, also had a solid summer, finishing 6-2 overall.

4. Top Gun Lax
Major Titles
King of the Hill Session II

Players to Watch Garrett Campbell, A, St. John’s Prep, Mass.; Jordan Greenfield, A, The Rivers School, Mass.; Frank Wheeler-Larusso, M, Catholic Memorial, Mass.; Geordie Carrick, D, The Rivers School, Mass.

Final Take Highlight of the season was taking the King of the Hill Session II tournament with a 6-4 victory over the Long Island Express and a final record of 6-0. They also finished a strong 5-2 at the Shootout by Brine and 4-1 at the MVP Tournament Session I.

5. Tri-State Lacrosse
Finalist
Tri-State National

Players to Watch: Mac Davis, G, Glen Ridge, N.H.; Ethan Kibrick, G, The Peddie School, N.J.; Dean Dickey, Moorestown, N.J.; Matt Gilbertson, D, Rumson Fair Haven, N.J.

Final Take: Good year all around for Tri-State’s different teams. The 2010 Black team finished 24-5, losing just once in three of their four tournaments including twice to our No. 1 Long Island Express 2011s. Their 2011 Team (rising juniors) finished 16-6 with winning records at King of the Hill Session I, Tri-State National and Princeton Team Camp. A note, the best year in their program could be the 2012 teams.

6. Madlax Super Select
Finalist
Crab City Challenge, Virginia Team Camp (3-1-1)

Players to Watch Garrett Swankowski, D, Loudoun Valley HS, Va. (Virginia); Chris Daddio, M, Loudoun Valley, Va. (Syracuse); James Malm, M, Woodberry Forest, Va. (Johns Hopkins); Hunter DeButts, D, Episcopal, Va. (Princeton)

Final Take Both the Madlax Super Select team, a collection of the top 20 players in the club regardless of position, and strictly rising junior squads did well this summer. They ran through the Crab City Challenge, losing to Crabs 2010s in the final. The Juniors Orange team did well at the Virginia Team Camp and the UP Lax tourney.

7. CT Bulldogs Red
Major Titles
Shootout by Brine Session 1

Players to Watch Brendan Rotanz, A, Fairfield Prep, Conn; Todd Heritage, A, Cheshire, Conn.; Tobias Armour, D, Choate, Conn.; Alex Rose, D, Old Lyme, Conn.

Final Take Pulled off a big win in the Brine Shootout Session I, beating a tough Roadhawks White team in IL’s favorite championship game of the summer. Also tied a LI all-star team and beat West Coast Starz at their hosted Bulldog Jamboree. Other junior teams also performed well, with Bulldogs Grey making the final of the Junior AA bracket at Tri-State and Bulldog Blue winning the Junior A title.

8. BELAX (Md.)
Major Titles
Finalist - Champ Camp

Players to Watch Tony Rossi, M, Calvert Hall, Md. (Maryland); Pat Powderly, M, St. Paul’s, Md. (Syracuse), Tyler Frederick, A, McDonogh, Md. (Ohio State); Juniors- John Kelly, D, Bullis, Md.; Bobby Gribbin, M, Georgetown Prep, Md.

Final Take A strong group of elite players from the Maryland and D.C. area prep schools, BELAX gave the Dukes all they could take in the Champ Camp final. Also rolled several top teams on the way to that title. Finished third at the Evolution Games in Philly.

9. Roadhawks White (Central N.Y.)
Major Titles
Syracuse Shootout, Finalist - Shootout by Brine Session I

Players to Watch Billy Ward, A, Baldwinsville, N.Y. (Syracuse); Carl Zimmerman, A, Homer, N.Y. (Harvard); Connor Entenmann, A, Auburn, N.Y.(Cornell); Danny Eipp, D, Westhill, N.Y. (Harvard)

Final Take The Roadhawks’ premier team won 13 games in their final two tournaments, sweeping through the Syracuse Shootout before making the finals at the Shootout by Brine Session I. Their core of juniors (John Greacen, Ari Waffle, Stephan Basile) carried the team at UMBC before falling in against the CT Bulldogs.

10. NESLL U19 Black (New England)
Major Titles
Semifinalists Champ Camp, Shootout By Brine

Players to Watch Josh Dionne, A, Avon Old Farms, Mass.; Sean Shakespeare, A, Noble and Greenough School, Mass.; Pete Bowes, D, Walpole, Mass.

Final Take The NESLL program finished the end of the summer with a strong run, finishing in third place at the Shootout by Brine Session II, losing to Landon and BL on their way through the third place game. Also dominated at Champ Camp before falling to BELAX in the semifinals.
